American Foulbrood (AFB) detection
This molecular test detects DNA from Paenibacillus Larvae, the causative agent of American Foulbrood (AFB) disease, in honey samples. In this test, DNA extracted from honey samples is tested for the presence of two different genetic markers found in AFB. Testing for two markers provides increased specificity for the detection of AFB.
Test methodology
Following extraction of DNA, the presence or absence of the two AFB markers is determined using a quantitative real time PCR method. Both markers must be detected for the sample to be classed as positive for the presence of AFB.
